Monthly Ministry/Prayer Update | February 2012

“…when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.”

Galatians 2:9-10

This week was freeazing in Ukraine. Here in Odessa, the southernmost part of the country, it got as low as -20 degrees C.

The needs for ministry here are endless. I don’t want to spoil all the stats I will be sharing beginning next week in presentations along the West Coast. I will however mention the annual population decrease, alcoholism including children, HIV/AIDS rate, high smoking rate, poor water, homeless or abused children, sex and labor trafficking, the average monthly income compared to the cost of living, corruption in the government at the expense of the poor, poverty, the shadow economy, and the list goes on.

One would have to be colder than 20 below to not want to do something. At the very least pray and pray hard. I want to pray for Ukraine, which is the absolute best thing I can do if I will but do it in dependance, but I want to do more than pray. By God’s strength I want to touch and transform lives with the Gospel! This Gospel being a means to Christ, not Christ being a means to forgiveness or happiness. Christ is the culmination of the Gospel and all things.

Today I was thinking about how some people in America have a hard time believing God is good when they encounter tough trials. With this line of reasoning a person would wonder why anyone in Ukraine would ever believe in God at all. The amazing thing is God is good and there are people here who know it although their lives are much harder than most Americans.

What does Ukraine need? It needs Christ! Will you pray with me?

February through April I will be in the United States everywhere from Seattle to San Diego and on over to Phoenix and Tucson. I will be sharing about the development of the present Ukrainian condition and worldview, how you can pray for them or be involved, and mobilizing missions as an end to worship found in the majesty of Christ. Please join us as we gaze upon His ineffable glory and magnificanece and pray for Ukraine.

Dates and locations for speaking appointments can be viewed here.

More dates as will be set as time progresses. Be sure to watch this video we put together which gives a taste of the Ukrainina condition:

PRAYER NEEDS

1. Please pray for fruitfulness in the three month trip to the States. That Christ would be honored and glorified, that I would seek to give freely, and our needs would be met.

2. Hard studying is paying off as, so far Lera has all A’s and two B’s on her exams. Please pray for her when I am gone as she will be shopping for and moving into a new flat without me. Pray for her ministry to the girl’s group as well.

3. Pray hard for Odessa and Ukraine. Pray for the means to advance the Gospel here, displaying the glory of Christ in the face of God, by all necessary means including more missionaries and more funds!

4. Please pray for our other friends who graduated the missionary training center with us. Katya and Marina in Uganda, Justyna and Marta in India, Vitaly and Lidia in Odessa, and Andre who was on his way to Uganda but was turned back in Moscow. Thank you for your prayers!

Thank you so much for your sacrificial involvement through prayer, giving, and working. Remember that giving is going, and in going we hasten His coming!

“Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God…”

2 Peter 3:11-12

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”

Matthew 24:14
